The Seminary after 1870
The Seminary Building, which stood on the current site of Mary Lyon Hall, was designed by Mary Lyon and completed in 1837. It contained classrooms, parlors, and rooms for students and faculty. A south wing was added in 1841 and a north wing in 1853. In 1865 a gymnasium and laundry were added at the back of the building making it a square with a central court yard. The Seminary Building was destroyed by fire on September 27, 1896.
