| Redefining Your Topic |
Once you have completed your secondary research it is a good idea to sit down and review your topic choice. It is possible that you will have based your topic on certain assumptions regarding an issue and you may now find that those assumptions are no longer valid or that for other reasons you wish to adjust the focus of your research. In addition, you may discover that your topic is still too broad or that finding the information that you would need will require more time than you have. For instance, studying the lives of women college students, 1901-1910 is, despite how narrow it appears a very broad subject. You would find that there is too much information available on this issue and you would be hard pressed make this paper truly comprehensive. You might now decide to narrow the focus to women's colleges only, or, even better, a specific group of institutions: the lives of women college students at Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges, 1901-1910.
