Ready Reference Sources

  • CIA Publications and Handbooks. Provides links to the full-text of the current editions of the CIA World Factbook, Chiefs of State, Maps, etc.
  • Europa World Yearbook: enhanced version of the print version (JN 1 E85 REF). Provides political and economic information on countries and territories as well as international organizations. Features statistical data and directories.
  • Library of Congress Country Studies. Online equivalent of the Area Handbook Series which are located in the Library's Reference Room. Each work focuses on a specific country's political, economic, social, and national security systems and institutions.
  • Country Reports on Economic Policy and Trade Practices. Produced by the US State Department for Congress.
  • Portals to the World. Provided by the Library of Congress, this site contains "selective links providing authoritative, in-depth information about the nations and other areas of the world."
  • Biography. Online www site for the A&E television program. For a more extensive biography locating tool, ask a Reference Librarian about the microfiche service called Bio-Base which is located behind the Reference Desk.
  • Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.Provides, among other resources, the full-text of recently declassified Soviet documents.
  • Foreign and International Law Web. Provides links to primary foreign and international legal resources.
  • World Constitutions.Provides partial coverage of constitutions for various countries. Constitutions of the Countries of the World (K 3157 E5 C65) is a more comprehensive source.
  • Multilaterals Project. Ongoing project at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy to provide the texts of international multilateral conventions and other instruments.
  • European Treaty Series. Provides the full text of treaties signed by countries in Europe since 1949.
  • United Nation Treaty Collection.
  • National Security Archive. An independent, non-governmental research institute that publishes declassified U.S. documents.
  • Foreign Relations of the United States. Selected volumes from the printed set (JX 233 A3) published by the U.S. State Department since 1861. The set contain the official documentary historical record of U.S. foreign policy decisions and diplomatic activity of the U.S. government.
  • Thomas: Legislative Information on the Internet. Provides the full-text of legislation and accompanying documents (hearings, reports, bills, etc.) in the U.S. Congress.
  • Electoral Websites. Provides information on parliamentary elections and links to www sites of national parliaments and political parties worldwide.
  • INCORE Internet Country Guides. Provides scholarly information on ethnic confilicts in several countries.
  • Internet Legal Resources. Produced by Gonzaga University's School of Law, this site provides links to information sources on national and international politics and law.
  • Political Database of the Americas. Launched in 1995, this site provides access to current primary source documents and political information about Western Hemisphere politics.
  • ISN: International Relations and Security Network. Provides links to government and academic texts, organized by subject, region, current events, research institutes, professional conferences, and listservs.

  • Browse the JX section in the main stacks for primary and secondary sources on international relations, law and organizations.
  • Search the Five College Online Library Catalog by author, title or subject.

  • PAIS: Public Affairs Information Service. Indexes articles, books, conference proceedings, and government documents. Available online via FirstSearch for literature published since 1972 and in paper (H 1 P3 Ref) from 1915.
  • International Bibliography of Political Science. Indexes articles and books in the fields of politics, economics, sociology, and anthropology from 1951 to the present. Click the button, "Direct" to access the database.
  • Bibliography on Foreign and Comparative Law (K 38 B53 Ref).
