Low Voltage Cable Plant Construction

In this document, I wish to specify what items in the low voltage
infrastructure will be the responsibilty of the contractors and
what items Mount Holyoke College personnel will install.
This document does not serve as a design document.
The low-voltage cable plant provides the following services:
- Data network
- Telephone
- Video
- HVAC control
- Access control
- Fire alarm systems
- Intrusion alarm systems
- Other alarm systems (e.g., environmental)
Normally the wires or cables to support these systems
originate in a distribution facility
or wiring closet and terminate in various places
in the building (client areas).
Equipment is hooked up to these cables.
As part of the construction project, I expect that
the contractors will install and construct:
- Any needed cable runs from other buildings into the building.
- Wiring closets
- Cable terminations such as patch panels and other appropriate
termination hardware, including patch panels, in the wiring
closets.
- Cable runs to client areas.
- Appropriate termination of cables in the client areas.
Basically, the contractors will install the cableplant. In the case
of the data network and the video system,
Mount Holyoke will install the electronics
and will plug the electronics into the cableplant with patch cables.
