As the chief academic officer, provide academic, financial and administrative leadership for seven schools and colleges, along with collateral units serving 4,700 undergraduate and 1,600 graduate students. In addition to the collegiate deans, direct reports include the Director of Libraries, the Chief Information Officer and Director of Informational Technology Services, the Dean of Graduate Studies, the Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the Assistant Provost and Dean of Faculty Development, and the Assistant Provost for Financial Planning. As the University of Hartford’s second ranking administrator, frequently represent the President in all aspects of his job. Work closely and collaboratively with the four Vice Presidents and the University’s General Counsel and Secretary to coordinate university activities and planning. Work with 60-member Board of Regents, serving as a representative on the Executive Committee, University Education Committee, Finance Committee, Investments Committee and Institutional Advancement Committee. Other committee responsibilities include the Facilities Master Plan Committee, Budget Advisory Committee, the Committee on the DeWitt Museum of Political Life, and the Space Planning Committee. Member of the Board of Corporators of the Hartford Art School and serve on the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges and the Hartford Consortium for Higher Education.

2006-2008
Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School, University of Rhode Island

Responsible for overseeing the undergraduate curricula in nine colleges, 55 Masters and 36 Ph.D. programs. Direct reports included the Office of Student Learning Outcomes, Assessment, and Accreditation; the Honors Program; Instructional Development Program; Enrollment Services; Office of Admission; and Office of Athletic Compliance. Served as chair of Academic Advising Steering Committee, Enrollment Management Committee, Curriculum Delivery Committee and as a member of Curricular Affairs Committee, Athletics Advisory Board, University College and General Education Committee, Learning Outcomes Oversight Committee, Asset Protection Committee, Space Allocation Committee, Master Planning Review Committee, Centennial Scholarship Committee, Office of Higher Education’s PK-16 Committee and Branding Committee. Liaison between the offices of the President and Provost and the Board of Governors.

2005-2006
Interim Vice Provost for Research, Graduate Studies and Outreach, University of Rhode Island

Responsible for the pre-award process, contracts, patents and license agreements, technology transfer, human and animal subject compliance, small boats, hazardous materials, conflict of interest, outreach and all facets of graduate education. Direct reports included the Division of Research Development, the Division of Sponsored Projects Review, the Division of Compliance in Research, the Division of Research and Technology Transfer and the two associate deans of the Graduate School. Worked at the national level with the Council of Graduate Schools to develop best practices for research ethics training. Became the Principal Investigator on a $3.5 M ADVANCE grant through NSF to promote the careers of women in the STEM disciplines and on a $750,000 NSF Northeast Alliance for Graduate Studies and the Professorate grant to create a pipeline for students from underrepresented groups into STEM graduate studies. The research profile of the University increased from $65-72 M during my tenure.

Supported the Dean of the Graduate School in implementing programs designed to enhance graduate education, recruitment and retention. In addition to the day to day administrative responsibilities, developed a Research Ethics Fellows Program and new orientation program for graduate students of color through funding from the Council of Graduate Schools and the Office of Research Integrity.
