


<p><font size=4><span class=pagetitle>Volleyball Takes Part in Midcoast Classic</span></font></p>

<p><strong>BRUNSWICK, Maine (Oct. 3, 2009)</strong> &ndash; The Mount Holyoke College women&rsquo;s volleyball team participated in the 2009 Midcoast Classic this weekend. After suffering a 3-0 setback to Rivier College on Friday night, the Lyons were blanked 3-0 by both Bowdoin College and Worcester State College on Saturday. All three contests took place at Bowdoin&rsquo;s Morrell Gymnasium.</p>
<p>Bowdoin finished the weekend with a perfect 3-0 mark, while Rivier went 2-1, and Worcester State ended 1-2. The Polar Bears were paced by Tournament Most Valuable Player Gillian Page. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by teammates Jenna Diggs and Melissa Haskell, Rivier's Danielle Stoodley and Kenna Finlayson, Mount Holyoke junior outside hitter <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/volleyball/16593.shtml">Rosa Marruffo</a></strong> and Worcester State's Lauren Saylor.</p>
<p>Mount Holyoke kicked off its weekend with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-6) defeat against Rivier on Friday. Junior setter <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/volleyball/16587.shtml">Kateryna Kuc</a></strong> posted a double-double on 11 assists and 11 digs to lead the way. The Lyons also received solid production from first year outside hitter <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/volleyball/23608.shtml">Kathryn Brummer</a></strong>, who tallied three kills and seven digs. Marruffo and sophomore middle hitter <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/volleyball/20626.shtml">Tyler Protano-Goodwin</a></strong> accumulated four kills apiece, while junior defensive specialist <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/volleyball/16583.shtml">Kara Neidhardt</a></strong> added nine digs</p>
<p>The Lyons faced off against host Bowdoin in their first match of the day on Saturday, falling by a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-6, 25-14). First year outside hitter <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/volleyball/23606.shtml">Morgan Cooley</a></strong> produced five kills to set the tone. Marruffo posted nine digs, and Kuc chipped in with eight assists.</p>
<p>Mount Holyoke then rounded out its weekend with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-13, 25-21) setback against Worcester State College. Kuc registered her second double-double of the tournament with 11 assists and 11 digs. Meanwhile, Brummer totaled six kills.</p>
<p>The Lyons (3-10, 0-4 NEWMAC) will resume their New England Women&rsquo;s and Men&rsquo;s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) slate on Tuesday, when they visit Springfield College at 7:00 p.m.</p>
