Cross Country Races at New England Championship

BOSTON, Mass. (Oct. 11, 2008) - The Mount Holyoke College cross country team posted a 42nd place finish at the 2008 New England Cross Country Championship today in Boston, Massachusetts. A total of 301 runners from 45 teams competed in the event, which took place at Franklin Park.

Boston College (38) dominated the field en route to claiming the team title. Brown University (141) and Williams College (190) rounded out the top three.

In the individual competition, Boston University's Andrea Walkonen claimed top honors with a time of 17:19. She finished just in front of Amherst's Elise Tropiano (17:38) and teammate Erin Lagasse (17:40), who took second and third place, respectively.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was senior Jessamyn Rising, who completed the 5,000 meter course in 20:16 to secure 177th place. The Lyons also received a boost from sophomore Rebecca Engell, who crossed the line in 20:30 to take 197th place. First year Allie Lane added a 271st place result (22:16).

Mount Holyoke will return to action next Saturday at the Seven Sisters Championships. The Lyons took home the title at the event last fall.
