Squash Cruises Past Amherst, 7-2
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Jan. 15, 2009) – Playing on its home courts for the first time this season, the Mount Holyoke College women’s squash team cruised to a 7-2 victory over Amherst College this afternoon. It was the Lyons third straight win over the Lord Jeffs.
Leading the way for Mount Holyoke were senior Pamela Anckermann, junior Laurian Lue Yen and junior Lila Khan, who each picked up 3-0 wins. Lue Yen dropped just two points in her number five match against sophomore Caitlin Demkin. Meanwhile, Anckermann and Khan surrendered three points apiece in their victories. Anckermann downed sophomore Allie Dalgish at the number one slot, and Khan upended first year Caroline Dreyspool in the number nine matchup.
Sophomore Vidushi Gurunada, junior Laura Robinson, first year Shara Robertson and junior Kasia Kolodziejcak also found the win column for the Lyons.
Amherst’s victories came from senior Melissa Moulton and first year Megan Clower.
Mount Holyoke (6-3) is slated to face off against Bates College at 1:15 p.m. and Bowdoin College at 6:15 p.m. Meanwhile, Amherst (5-4) will compete against Connecticut College at 10:45 a.m. and George Washington University at 3:45 p.m.
