<p><strong>﻿NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Jan. 17, 2009)</strong> &ndash; The Mount Holyoke College women&rsquo;s squash team picked up a pair of victories today at Yale University. After edging Bates College 5-4, the Lyons cruised to a 7-2 triumph over Bowdoin College. With their two wins, they ran their win streak to three and boosted their overall record to 8-3.</p>
<p>Senior <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/squash/17471.shtml">Menusha Hettiarachchi </a></strong>sparked Mount Holyoke to a thrilling 5-4 victory over Bates. After missing the first two months of the season with an injury, she returned to the lineup and dropped just three points in a 3-0 triumph at the number nine slot. Junior <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/squash/17476.shtml">Laura Robinson</a></strong> picked up a 3-0 win of her own at the number three position to put the Lyons in front 2-0, but Bates grabbed wins in the numbers six, seven and eight spots to gain a 3-2 edge. Senior <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/squash/17468.shtml">Pamela Anckermann</a></strong> and sophomore <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/squash/17470.shtml">Vidushi Gurunada</a></strong> then put Mount Holyoke back in front with 3-0 wins at the numbers one and two positions, respectively. With the match in the balance, junior <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/squash/17475.shtml">Laurian Lue Yen </a></strong>sealed things with a thrilling 3-2 triumph at the fifth slot. Trailing 2-1, she outscored her opponent 9-4 in both the fourth and fifth games to complete the comeback.</p>
<p>With momentum in its favor, Mount Holyoke went on to defeat a tough Bowdoin squad 7-2 in their second match of the day. Robinson and junior <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/squash/17478.shtml">Hillela Simpson</a></strong> got things going with shutout victories at the numbers three and nine positions, respectively. The Lyons then swept the second round of matches to ice things. Gurunada grabbed a 3-2 win at the second slot, while Lue Yen earned a 3-1 win at the number five position. Hettiarachchi rounded things out with a convincing 3-0 victory at the number eight slot. She dropped just two points in the match. Mount Holyoke&rsquo;s remaining wins came from Anckermann and junior <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/squash/17473.shtml">Kasia Kolodziejczak</a></strong>, who each won 3-0. They were playing in the numbers one and seven slots, respectively.</p>
<p>The Lyons have now defeated Bates three straight times, all by scores of 5-4. They have downed Bowdoin twice in a row.</p>
<p>Mount Holyoke (8-3) will return to action on Tuesday at Brown University. The match is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.</p>
