NEWMAC Announces Women’s Rowing All-Conference Awards

BABSON PARK, Mass. (April 22, 2009) – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 women's rowing postseason awards yesterday. Among the award winners were three members of the Mount Holyoke College team. Senior Sarah Gray and junior Mya Steadman earned NEWMAC All-Conference Team honors, while first year Hannah Blackmer was selected to the NEWMAC Novice Team.

Smith College head coach Karen Klinger was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year after her squad captured the Florence Jope Smith Cup at Saturday's Conference Championship. Meanwhile, WPI earned the NEWMAC Sportsmanship Award

The Florence Cup is awarded to the team that accumulates the most points in the four championship races. Mount Holyoke finished third in the standings behind Smith and Wellesley College.

The Lyons will be off until Saturday, May 2, when they compete in the New England Rowing Championships at Lake Quinsigamond.
