


<p><font size=4><span class=pagetitle>Star of "Goodfellas" Gives Master Class</span></font></p>

<p>Actor, director, TV and movie star Paul Sorvino will be giving a master class with selected Mount Holyoke and UMass students at 7 pm Monday, April 6, at the College's Rooke Theatre.  Observation of the class will be free to students, faculty, and staff of Five College theatre and film departments; general admission for others is $5. Since seating is limited, reservations are encouraged. Please call 413-538-2406.</p>
<p>Sorvino will be in the Pioneer Valley to participate in an offering of the Massachusetts International Festival of the Arts Spring Festival. The staged reading is described below in a March 3 piece in the <em>Springfield Republican</em>:</p>
<p>&quot;MIFA's Spring Festival also features the New England debut of <em>Stella in the Bois de Boulogne</em>, performed by Academy Award winning actress, Mira Sorvino, and her father, Tony-Award winning actor, Paul Sorvino. The Sorvinos will star in the staged reading of a new play about the historic meeting of American actress and teacher, Stella Adler, with Russian actor and director, Constantine Stanislavsky, in Paris in 1934. The Sorvinos also starred in the play when it was read in January in New York City. The play is directed by (Donald) Sanders, who also directed the New York presentation.</p>
<p>&quot;<em>Stella's</em> presentation in New England will be the final event of the Pioneer Valley Jewish Film Festival, and will be presented live onstage at the Amherst Cinema Arts Center at 28 Amity Street on April 5 at 7 pm. General admission is $10.&quot;</p>
<p>Sorvino has amassed an impressive career.  According to the actor's biography at hollywood.com:</p>
<p>&quot;A familiar face in film and on television and stage since the early 1970s, Paul Sorvino (is) a Tony-nominated character actor and occasional lead whose imposing presence belie(s) the versatility of his talents. His Italian-American heritage and Brooklyn roots assured him regular employment as policemen and gangsters, both of which he essayed in projects ranging from <em>Law and Order</em> (NBC, 1990- ) to Martin Scorsese&rsquo;s flawless Mob epic, <em>Goodfellas</em> (1990). But Sorvino, who had trained for nearly two decades as an opera singer and ballroom dance instructor, (can) be counted on to tackle all manner of roles, from the philandering businessman in <em>That Championship Season</em> (1982) and Henry Kissinger in Oliver Stone&rsquo;s <em>Nixon</em> (1995) to a flamboyant evangelist in Carl Reiner&rsquo;s <em>Oh, God!</em> (1979). He was also a regular presence in numerous television series and TV-movies.&quot;</p>
