Ackmann's Curveball Earns Media Attention
July 7, 2010
Curveball: The Remarkable Story of Toni Stone, the First Woman to Play Professional Baseball in the Negro League, the new book by MHC's Martha Ackmann, senior lecturer in gender studies, has garnered interest and praise locally, regionally, and nationally. Ackmann has recently done interviews with Tavis Smiley, NPR's Michel Martin, and the Red Sox Radio Network, among many others, to talk about Toni Stone (1921-1996), the woman who replaced Henry Aaron when he moved to the majors--and then proved she could compete on a men's team.
