Campaign Reaches Two-Thirds Point
July 21, 2010
As of the end of June, The Campaign for Mount Holyoke crossed the two-thirds point towards its ambitious $300 million goal. Launched in October 2006, the Campaign has now taken in more than $204 million.
Key to reaching that milestone was $5.2 million in gifts and pledges honoring President Joanne V. Creighton, who stepped down at the end of June. Chief among the honors to MHC's longtime leader was the May 6 naming of the new residence hall: Joanne V. Creighton Hall.
The Campaign has already had a transformative effect on the campus. In addition to the $30 million green residence hall, it has funded a $5.9 million, state-of-the-art track and field facility, the $7.6 million expansion to the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex, and a new $2.1 million boathouse, which opened this spring.
"I am extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed to achieving this extraordinary milestone," noted new President Lynn Pasquerella. "The Campaign's strong progress reflects the deep and abiding commitment of our alumnae, trustees, parents, and friends to supporting both Mount Holyoke's historic mission and its bright future. I am eager to work with our exceptional community to create new pathways as we reach out to provide access to academic excellence for women, while promoting liberal learning for purposeful engagement in the world."
To date Campaign funds have supported a number of important goals, including the endowment, new programs, and new facilities. The next $100 million will be used to a significant degree to support scholarships through gifts to the endowment and the Annual Fund. To date, $103.6 million in gifts and pledges has been raised towards the $175 million endowment goal.
The Campaign is slated to end in December 2011.
