Stanford Handles Squash, 7-2
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. (Jan. 30, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s squash team suffered a 7-2 setback versus Stanford University this afternoon at the Simon Squash Center on the campus of Williams College. It was Stanford’s third straight win over the Lyons.
Senior Pamela Anckermann and sophomore Vidushi Gurunada each found the win column for Mount Holyoke. Anckermann cruised to a 3-0 (9-0, 9-7, 9-0) victory over Samantha Buechner in the number one contest. Meanwhile, Gurunada downed Katie Corelli 3-1 (10-8, 3-9, 9-5, 9-5) in the number two match.
Mount Holyoke (11-5) will host the annual Seven Sisters Championship tomorrow. The top seeded Lyons will open with a semifinal contest against fourth seeded Smith College at 10:00 a.m. Second seeded Vassar College will meet third seeded Wellesley College in the second semifinal at 11:30 a.m. The third place contest will take place at 1:30 p.m. and will be followed by the championship at 3:00 p.m. Mount Holyoke has captured titles in each of the previous two tournaments.
