


<p><font size=4><span class=pagetitle>Lacrosse Nips Allegheny in Florida Finale, 15-12</span></font></p>

<p><strong>WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 18, 2009)</strong> &ndash; The Mount Holyoke College women&rsquo;s lacrosse team picked up a 15-12 triumph over non-conference foe Allegheny College today in its second of two spring break games at Lake Lytal Park in West Palm Beach, Florida. With the win, the Lyons improved to 3-2 on the season. The Gators fell to 1-3.</p>
<p>Mount Holyoke enjoyed large advantages in both shots (33-21) and draw controls (20-9). Leading the way for the Lyons was junior midfielder <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/lacrosse/19083.shtml">Peggy Wefald</a></strong>, who piled up five goals and eight draw controls. Senior midfielder <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/lacrosse/19072.shtml">Ava Gottschall</a></strong> recorded four goals, and sophomore attacker <strong><a href="http://www.mtholyoke.edu/athletics/varsity/lacrosse/19071.shtml">Clara Raugei</a></strong> finished with three goals and a pair of assists. It was her fourth consecutive hat trick. First year midfielder <strong>Hilary Bombard&nbsp;</strong> chipped in with a pair of tallies.</p>
<p>Sophomore attacker Jensen Paterson paced Allegheny with four goals and a helper. The Gators also received a boost from first year attacker Kiah Voyer-Colbath, who found the net four times. Sophomore midfielder Abby Silvester added two goals and an assist.</p>
<p>Neither team led by more than one goal in a first half that saw seven ties and two lead changes. At the break, the score was knotted up at 7-7. Wefald registered three of her five goals before the intermission. Voyer-Colbath also had three tallies for the Gators.</p>
<p>Mount Holyoke scored the first three goals of the second stanza to open up a 10-7 edge. Raugei found the net twice during the rally, which spanned nearly ten minutes.</p>
<p>Refusing to go away, Allegheny responded with two straight tallies to slice the deficit to 10-9 at the 18:09 mark.</p>
<p>From there, the Lyons took over. They erupted for another 3-0 run to push their cushion to 13-9 with 13:56 remaining in regulation. Wefald scored two of the three goals during the spurt.</p>
<p>Sophomore goalkeeper <strong>Missy Hartley</strong> made six saves en route to her third win of the season. Junior Rachael Coons turned away 13 shots for the Gators.<br />

<p>Mount Holyoke (3-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) will kick off its home slate on Thursday, March 26, when it hosts non-conference foe Bridgewater State College at 4:30 p.m.</p>
