Larson-Koester and Brezicha Compete in New England Regional Championships
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (May 2, 2009) – A pair of Mount Holyoke College women’s outdoor track and field team members competed in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships at Springfield College over the weekend. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (152.50) took home the team title, followed by Williams College (143) and Middlebury College (68). Mount Holyoke grabbed 26th place overall.
Miriam Larson-Koester highlighted the weekend for the Lyons. The first year posted eighth place in the discus with a toss of 35.77 meters. As a result of her performance, she was awarded All-New England honors. In addition, she made Mount Holyoke eligible for the team standings with the point that she earned in the event.
Junior Jessica Brezicha recorded 2,477 points (15th place) in the heptathlon. She later collected 24th place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.83.
Mount Holyoke will return to action next weekend at the New England Championships. The event is slated to begin on Friday and conclude on Saturday and will be hosted by the University of Massachusetts.
