MHC's Benfey in International Publications

Mellon Professor of English Christopher Benfey has recently had pieces in the New Republic, the New York Review of Books, and Times Literary Supplement.

In the January 3 Times Literary Supplement, Benfey reviewed Christopher Irmscher's new biography of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Longfellow Redux, writing:

"The bicentenary of the birth of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the most revered and reviled of all American poets, falls in 2007. Perhaps the most that can be hoped is that his third century will be kinder to his reputation than his second."

In the January 22 New Republic, Benfey reviewed The Notebooks of Robert Frost, edited by Robert Faggen (Harvard University Press).

In the February 15 New York Review of Books, he reviewed a new biography of the American poet Emma Lazarus, who is known for penning the inscription at the base of the Statue of Liberty, as well as a new collection of her poems, edited by the poet John Hollander.
