Track & Field Earns Two All-ECAC Recognitions
ONEONTA, N.Y. (May 18, 2007) - Eight Mount Holyoke College athletes qualified to compete at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Outdoor Championships. The Lyons returned to South Hadley with two All-ECAC honors and many season-best performances. Overall, the Lyons placed in a tie for 26th among a field of 42 teams. Cortland State was named the 2007 champions.
Junior Grace Zeigler continued to record high marks in the long jump, registering a season-best 17'1.5". Her distance was good enough for fourth place for which she garnered All-ECAC honors. Senior thrower Andi Villasenor joined the All-ECAC honoree, tallying a mark of 37'03" in the shot put. Villasenor finished in fifth place overall.
The Lyons also had athletes competing in the 4 x 100 relay, the discus and the 400m hurdles. The 4 x 100m Relay consisting of Natasha Peyes '10, Malai Tananone '07, Ebony Williams '10, and Grace Zeigler '08 raced to their second fastest time of the season (51.81), placing 13th overall. Senior Gretchen Sminkey earned 10th place honors in the discus, reaching a distance of 112'02" with her throw. Classmate Malai Tananone recorded a time of 1:07.81 in the 400m hurdles, ranking 14th overall.
