


<p><font size=4><span class=pagetitle>Basketball Dropped by Worcester State, 67-59</span></font></p>

<B>SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Dec. 8, 2007) -</B> Senior guard Lindsay DellaChiaie (Leominster, Mass./Leominster) recorded game-highs of 21 points and ten rebounds to propel the Worcester State College women's basketball team to a 67-59 victory over non-conference foe Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at the Mildred Howard Gymnasium. The Lancers improved their season record to 2-6 with their second win in a row. Mount Holyoke's fifth straight loss dropped it to 1-8 on the year.

Worcester State shot 44.1% (26-59) in the game and made six three-pointers. The Lancers received solid production from first year guard Alexis George (Worcester, Mass./Holy Name), who tallied 13 points and eight boards. Classmate Kathleen Foley (Hudson, N.H./Alvirne) chipped in with 13 points off the bench. The guard knocked down four shots from behind the arc.

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was senior forward <B>Marisa Barone (Ludlow, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy)</B>, who posted a career-best 19 points to go with ten rebounds. It was her first double-double of the season and second of her career. Sophomore guard <B>Erin Cain (Quincy, Mass./Fontbonne Academy)</B> notched a career-high 17 points, while first year guard <B>Amber Sinicrope (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional)</B> added nine. Cain and Sinicrope connected for three treys apiece. The Lyons shot 31.3% (18-47) from the floor and 73.9% (17-23) from the free-throw stripe.

Neither team led by more than four points in a first half that featured six ties and three lead changes. A three-pointer by Foley with less than a minute remaining before the intermission put Worcester State in front 34-32. Barone led all scorers with ten points at the break.

The Lancers never trailed in the second stanza. They led by seven points (56-49) at the 7:26 mark, but an 8-2 Mount Holyoke run sliced the deficit to just one point (58-57) with just over three minutes remaining in regulation.
<BR><BR>
Worcester ended the contest on a 9-2 spurt to close things out. DellaChiaie scored seven points in that span on a three-pointer and a pair of layups.

Both teams will now break for the holidays. Mount Holyoke's (1-8, 0-0 NEWMAC) next game will be at Western New England College on Saturday, January 5. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Worcester State (2-6, 0-0 MASCAC) will travel to the west coast to take on George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon on Saturday, December 29 at 7:00 p.m.
