


<p><font size=4><span class=pagetitle>Strong Second Half Lifts Springfield Past Basketball, 66-48</span></font></p>

<B>SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Jan. 19, 2008) -</B> Junior guard Corey Finch (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) netted a game-high 17 points to lead the Springfield College women's basketball team to a 66-48 victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action this evening at Blake Arena. With the win, the Pride bumped their record to 7-7 and improved to 2-1 in league play. The Lyons dropped to 3-11 overall and 0-3 versus NEWMAC foes.

Finch amassed her 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. She also contributed six rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Christine Cotter (Stoughton, Mass./Stoughton) tallied 12 points, while juniors Liz Brosseau (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) and Lauren O'Connor (Valhalla, N.Y./Valhalla) added ten points apiece. The centers combined to snag 16 rebounds in the contest.  Springfield shot 44.8% (26-58) from the field in the game and handed out 17 assists on its 26 made buckets.

Mount Holyoke was paced by junior guard <B>Katie Austen (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai)</B>, who registered a team-best 12 points to go with six boards, three assists and three steals. Sophomore guard <B>Erin Cain (Quincy, Mass./Fontbonne Academy)</B> finished with 11 points, while first year guard <B>Amber Sinicrope (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional)</B> chipped in with ten.  Sophomore <B>Jess Olson (Gilbert, Ariz./Highland)</B> pulled down a team-high eight boards. The Lyons shot 39.5% (17-43) from the floor and connected on just 2-of-15 from beyond the arc.

With the game knotted up at 6-6 in the early going, Mount Holyoke rattled off an 8-2 run to open up a 14-6 advantage at the 11:18 mark of the opening frame. Over the next ten minutes, Springfield went on a 12-7 run, which resulted in its first lead of the ballgame. A Finch three-pointer put the hosts in front 22-21 with 1:29 remaining in the first half. They took a 27-23 edge into the locker room. Finch led all scorers with nine points at the break.

The Lyons registered the first six points of the second stanza to gain a 29-27 lead at the 17:23 mark. From there, it was all Springfield. The Pride gained control with a 6-0 spurt of their own and never trailed from that point on. Their final cushion of 18 points was their largest of the night.

Mount Holyoke (3-11, 0-3 NEWMAC) will return to action on Wednesday, when it hosts the Coast Guard Academy for a NEWMAC tilt beginning at 7:00 p.m.
