Indoor Track & Field Competes in NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Feb. 23, 2008) - The Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field team took part in the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships today at Smith College's Tartan Track. Senior Catherine Riffin (Weston, Mass./Weston) put the exclamation point on the event for the Lyons, setting a new school record in the 5,000-meter run. Her time of 18:24.87 was good for ninth place overall.

Mount Holyoke's 4x200-meter relay team of sophomore Crystal Boateng, senior captain Charisse Pickron (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional), sophomore Ebony Williams (Detroit, Mich./University Liggett) and senior Grace Zeigler (Oak Hill, Ill./Neuqua Valley) grabbed 12th place with a time of 1:51.29. They qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships as a result.

Senior Meghan Lynch (South Hadley, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) established a new personal record in the 3,000-meter run with her ninth place time of 10:32.66. Meanwhile, Boateng's 400-meter dash time of 1:03.33 was good for 17th place and was also a personal best.

Mount Holyoke will return to action next weekend, when it competes in the All New England Championships at Boston University. The event will kick off on Friday and conclude on Sunday.
