Outdoor Track and Field Competes in Aloha Relays

BRUNSWICK, Maine (April 19, 2008) - The Mount Holyoke College women's outdoor track and field team competed in the Aloha Relays at Bowdoin College this weekend. Several Lyons posted outstanding results at the event, which was the squad's final tune-up before next Saturday's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships at Smith College.

Senior Meghan Lynch (South Hadley, Mass./Holyoke Catholic) grabbed third place in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:36.94. Meanwhile, classmate Halaina Demba (Harvard, Mass./Bromfield) took home sixth place in the 1,500-meter run with her time of 4:54.29. Another senior, Grace Zeigler (Oak Hill, Ill./Neuqua Valley), posted a fourth place distance of 5.03 meters in the long jump. With their results, all three Lyons qualified for both the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in their respective events.

Elsewhere, sophomore Jess Brezicha (Olympia, Wash./Olympia) qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 18.23.
