Indoor Track and Field Opens Season at Smith Winter Classic

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Dec. 6, 2008) - The Mount Holyoke College women's indoor track and field team kicked off its 2008-09 slate at the Smith Winter Classic today.

Highlighting the day for the Lyons was first year Miriam Larson-Koester, who grabbed fifth place in the shot put. With her throw of 35'3", she qualified for the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship.

Senior captain Chelsea McCracken took home seventh place in the weight throw (29'6"), while first year Artemis Sapountzi collected sixth place in the 600-meter run (2:00.06) and 20th place in the 200-meter dash (33.01).

Mount Holyoke will be off until Saturday, January 24, 2009, when it competes in Wesleyan University's Swanson Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
