Riding Participates in Holiday Tournament of Champions Show

PAINEVILLE, Ohio (Dec. 8, 2008) - Twenty-two members of the Mount Holyoke College riding team traveled to Painesville, Ohio to participate in the prestigious Holiday Tournament of Champions Horse Show over the weekend. The event, which featured some of the best collegiate equestrian team from around the nation, was hosted by Lake Erie College. A total of 25 teams representing 22 institutions competed. Both Mount Holyoke entries finished in the top ten overall.

Virginia Intermont College took home High Point honors after defeating Centenary College's "Holly Bellies" in a tiebreaker. The two teams amassed 29 points apiece. Mount Holyoke's "Kiki" team tallied 28 points to secure third place, and its "Precious" team grabbed ninth place with 16 points.

A total of four Lyons competed in the medal class at the conclusion of the event. The quartet consisted of seniors Cassie Herman and Kirsten Kasper, along with junior Tracey Mack and sophomore JoJo Gutfarb. Herman qualified for the jumping phase of the competition, but she narrowly missed earning a ribbon.

First year Emily McCoy captured a blue ribbon in her section of the intermediate flat division. The Lyons also received second place performances from junior Meredith Feinberg (intermediate flat), sophomore Kim Nichols (walk-trot-canter) and sophomore Elizabeth Tripp (intermediate fences).

Mount Holyoke will enter the spring portion of its schedule leading the University of Massachusetts by 24 points in the Zone 1, Region 3 overall standings.
