Babson Bests Tennis, 8-1

BABSON PARK, Mass. (Oct. 10, 2009) – The Babson College women’s tennis team posted an 8-1 triumph over Mount Holyoke College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at the Farwell Courts this afternoon.

Jes Huang, Rebecca Stone and Monica Mercer contributed wins at both singles and doubles to pace the Beavers.

Babson jumped in front early by taking two of the three doubles contests. Huang and Stone picked up an 8-0 victory at the number one slot, while Mercer and Ashley Lake matched the feat in their number three contest. The Lyons lone point of the day came from their number two duo of junior Natalie Hsiang and sophomore Sarah Moore, who prevailed 8-6.

The Beavers (6-2, 4-1 NEWMAC) took all six singles matches to clinch things. Huang, Stone, Lorena Becerra, Mercer, Mikaela Stamas and Gabriela Baez came out on top at the numbers one through six spots, respectively.

The Lyons (3-6, 2-4 NEWMAC) will return to action on Tuesday, when they visit Springfield College for a league tilt beginning at 4:00 p.m.
