Meet Program
THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (0-0) opened its season with a second place finish at Betty Spears Relays. Host Wellesley grabbed first place at the event, and Westfield State rounded out the three team field. In their most recent outing, the Lyons sprinted to top honors at the Regis Invitational last weekend. The team has been paced by breaststroker Lindsay Schonborn and freestyler Lydia Bowers, who have figured in on five and six first places finishes, respectively. Newcomers Nora Cunningham and Joan Burton have also been productive for Mount Holyoke, which will be competing in its first dual match of the season tonight.
THE OWLS: Westfield State (1-0) got its season going with a convincing 161-130 dual meet triumph over Simmons College. The Owls followed that up with a third place finish at the Betty Spears Relays. Host Wellesley nabbed top honors, and Mount Holyoke finished second. On Saturday, Westfield State competed in the non-scoring UMass Dartmouth Invitational. Lindsey Malboeuf was the Owls lone first place finisher in the swimming events, as she won both the 50 and 100-yard backstroke events. Angie Wasylik placed second in the 50-yard butterfly, the 100-yard individual medley and the 50-yard freestyle.
NEXT UP: Both squads are slated to return to action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Mount Holyoke will travel to Western Connecticut State University, while Westfield State will visit Smith College.
