MHC's Arabic Film Festival Begins March 28

Mount Holyoke College's Asian Studies Department will sponsor its annual Arabic Film Festival, which runs from March 28 through April 1. The five films tackle a range of issues and aspects of the Arab world: from Israeli-Palestinian relations and perceptions of the U.S. to day-to-day life for ordinary Arabs. All of the screenings will take place in Cleveland L3 at 7 pm. The film screenings are free, open to the public, and accessible to all.

Sunday, March 28
Salt of the Sea
Director Annemarie Jacir's film about an American woman who has come to Israel from Brooklyn to see the land her Palestinian ancestors were ejected from 60 years ago.
Monday, March 29
Hello America
Hello America is a comedy exploring Egyptian stereotypes about life in the U.S., by director Nader Galal.
Tuesday, March 30
Slingshot Hip-Hop
Slingshot Hip-Hop intertwines the stories of young Palestinians living in Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel as they discover hip-hop and employ it to address divisions imposed by the occupation and poverty.
Wednesday, March 31
Amreeka
Amreeka chronicles the adventures of Muna, a single mother who leaves the West Bank with Fadi, her teenage son, with dreams of an exciting future in the promised land of small-town Illinois.
Thursday, April 1
Caramel
Caramel chronicles the lives of five Lebanese women and is the first feature film by director Nadine Labaki.
