Mount Holyoke's newest a cappella group, the Diversions, will perform their Secret Agent Jam May 1 in the Blanchard Great Room at 8 pm. In addition to their inventive renditions of old favorites and new material, the singers will be doing some on-stage sleuthing, à la Austin Powers and Charlie's Angels.

The Diversions came together in 2003. Their ever-expanding repertoire includes mostly popular music familiar to their audiences, like Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On and Justin Timberlake's Lovestoned. Meredith Spencer-Blaetz '11, who recently joined the Diversions, said the group believes "it's more fun for the audience to hear songs they know and see how the group arranges them.

Spencer-Blaetz, who also sings in the Glee Club, auditioned for the Diversions after attending Ice Cappella, the early spring jam at which all the College's a cappella groups perform. "I liked the Diversions' style of music and the way they present themselves. So, I tried out on a whim and was accepted. It's really fun. I'd never quit."

The Diversions recorded their first CD over January Term. Titled Face Your Fears, the disc will be on sale at the jam for $10.
