Laila Buligina Laila Buligina '08
Position:
Curatorial assistant
Major: International relations
Minor: Art history
Hometown: Riga, Latvia
Favorite piece at the museum: Masaniello by Alexandre-Marie Colin. I enjoy paintings that combine a well-defined psychological portrait of an individual with a landscape and an historical narrative.
Jacqueline Finnegan Jacqueline Finnegan '08
Position:
Collections management assistant
Major: Studio art
Minor: Complex organizations
Hometown: Orlando, Florida
Favorite piece at the museum: The newly acquired Jasper Johns prints Zero through Nine. Johns created something like an optical illusion where the numbers pop out in front of each other and move back and forth in space. I can't wait until Wendy Watson designs a show to display them.
Tanya Fonseca Tanya Fonseca '08
Position:
Collections management assistant
Major: Architectural studies
Minor: History
Hometown: Geneva, Switzerland
Favorite piece at the museum: The galvanized steel and aluminum Donald Judd piece in the Futter Gallery.
Caroline Gillaspie Caroline Gillaspie '08
Position:
Receptionist
Majors: Art history and history
Hometown: Athens, New York
Favorite piece at the museum: I love Hetch Hetchy Canyon. I am partial to the Hudson River School of art because I'm doing an independent study on Thomas Cole. I also love the ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian room. Classical art is my all-time favorite!
Kelly Ann Lum Kelly Ann Lum '08
Position:
Receptionist
Majors: Art history and French
Hometown: Burlingame, California
Favorite piece at the museum: I like the Hokusai woodblock print of a great wave with Mount Fuji in the background. It's a really famous image and currently featured in the Side by Side docent's choice show.
Leora Morinis Leora Morinis '08
Position:
Receptionist
Major: Critical social thought
Hometown: Vancouver, Canada
Favorite piece at the museum: Either Frank Stella's The Street, or the dower chest that belonged to Editha Kellogg. Kellogg was College founder Mary Lyon's great-great-grandmother--that rules!
Katie Omberg Katie Omberg '08
Position:
Collections management assistant
Major: Religion
Minor: Art history
Hometown: Rockville, Maryland
Favorite piece at the museum: We have a portfolio of some Max Beckmann prints. He's one of my all-time favorites, a German painter who worked from the 1910s to about the 1960s.
Elizabeth J. Petcu Elizabeth J. Petcu '08
Position:
Curatorial assistant
Major: Art history
Minor: Philosophy
Hometown: Longmeadow, Massachusetts
Favorite piece at the museum: A dish made at Iznik, Turkey, under the Ottomans around 1585. I was involved in its acquisition during my sophomore year as part of a final project for an Arts of Islam course. Ottoman trade reached as far as China in the East and Italy in the West, so this object represents a truly international visual dialogue.
Kathryn Plass Kathryn Plass '08
Position:
Curatorial assistant, Skinner Museum
Majors: History and biology
Hometown: Mountain View, California
Favorite piece at the museum: Hetch Hetchy Canyon by Bierstadt because of the light and because I come from an area served by water from the reservoir.
Emily Renfrew Emily Renfrew '08
Position: Education outreach fellow
Major: History
Minor: Educational studies
Hometown: Poulsbo, Washington
Favorite piece at the museum: Annie Lavelle by Robert Henri. It is a portrait of a little girl in a pink dress, but there is something in her giant blue eyes that just draws you in and makes you wonder what she's really thinking.
Grace Zeigler Grace Zeigler '08
Position: Receptionist
Majors: Sociology and English
Hometown: Oak Park, Illinois
Favorite piece at the museum: The bust of Faith. It's pretty and regal--and she seems a perfect example of a strong woman. My only regret is that she doesn't have a sister in a dark marble because they then would capture the multiple colors of our diverse MHC community.
