Carpentry/Locks
The
Carpentry Shop is responsible for normal carpentry duties such as
window repair, hanging doors, etc., as well as major construction
when required. In addition this shop has a complete cabinet making
area where many of the office furniture pieces (cabinets, worktops,
etc.) are made. Furniture repair is another important area of the
shop. In the furniture repair shop virtually all of the College's
furniture, including many pieces that are more than one hundred
years old are refinished and repaired.
Masonry,
roofing, floor tile, and even window shades are more examples of
the work that's performed in the Carpentry Shop. A sub-shop is the
Lock Shop. This shop with one full time locksmith maintains and
replaces all keys and locks on campus. A continuing relocking program
involves eight thousand doors at a cost of fifty thousand dollars
a year. These shops are staffed by eight carpenters, one locksmith,
and one furniture repair person and several Vocational Education
Co-op students all supervised by William Conz.
