HVAC
The
pipe fitting shop which used to be staffed with "Steam fitters"
has grown into the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning Shop.
Whereas in years past steam heat was their basic concern, now they
install, maintain, and repair hot water systems, chilled water cooling
systems, refrigeration systems, and even the computerized control
systems. Each of the 4 "fitters" and 1 supervisor are
licensed pipe fitters, and certified for handling refrigerants.
There
are 2 licensed refrigeration technicians in the department. Don
LaDuke supervises this crew and came out of the Boiler room where
he was a Stationary Fireman to eventually head up the shop.
