Ice Skating
Rink
On January 13, 2005, Facilities Management opened
the outdoor ice skating rink on Blanchard Green. The rink is approximately
8000 square feet, which is about 800 square feet larger than the
rink at Rockefeller Center in NYC. With an average depth of 6 inches,
it takes roughly 29,922 gallons of water to fill the rink area which
is generally a two day process. Each day, weather permitting, a
team from Facilities Management inspects the ice, removes any imperfections,
bubbles of ice, etc. and applies a new skim coat of water. Facilities
Management will keep the rink open as long as the weather remains
cold enough.

Shown below are some photos taken on Thursday,
Jan 20, 2005 during one of the J-Term activities. John Laprade,
Director of Student Programs stated "With the recent good ice,
there have been some beautiful iconic moments out on the rink."
On that particular Thursday, hot cider & donuts were served
at the Lantern.
