Summer Fellowship Opportunities
Through the Universal Application Form (UAF), the College will match your idea with one of our sources of funding. The fellowships accessed through the UAF include:
- Almara and Pugh Research Fellowships support summer student research in the History Department.
- Baxter and Monchow Research Fellowships support summer student research in the Economics Department.
- Center for Career Development awards provide support for unpaid (and partially supported) internships. Some funds are open only to students pursuing internships in specific fields or geographic location (i.e. public service, biomedical research, politics, Washington, D.C., etc.); others are general and may apply to broader career interests or majors.
- The Center for the Environment's Leadership Fellowships support internship or research opportunities in any field or major. Most opportunities have been pre-arranged directly with hosts, while some other funding is for student-originated projects.
- Dance Department awards support continued dance studies over the summer via workshops or dance classes.
- The Edward Allen Wilson Endowed Internship Fund supports students wishing to spend a summer in Los Angeles to study or work in some aspect of film production, with an emphasis on screenwriting preferred.
- Global Studies Summer Fellowships support collaborative student-mentor research abroad.
- Mary Jean Hale Fellowships in Environmental Studies support social science internship opportunities for geography and environmental studies majors.
- HHMI Summer Research programs support for students with interest in the disciplines of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, neuroscience and behavior (psychology), and earth and the environment.
- MHC International Internships are competitive opportunities for MHC students that have already been arranged directly with hosts.
- The MHC Summer Research program supports research, internship, or service/volunteer projects anywhere in the world.
- The Weed Summer Research Scholar Program is designed for low income students who want to develop their skills in research and who are willing to work independently with the support of a faculty mentor on a specific project.
- The Yale SURF program supports eight weeks at Yale for students with a strong desire to pursue careers in research at the Ph.D. level.
In addition, the College also offers other types of summer support for students through the following:
- Ellen P. Reese grants for faculty/student research support undergraduate independent research carried out with a Mount Holyoke College faculty member in any academic department or program. Reese grants are made to help defray expenses incurred by students doing research with Mount Holyoke faculty members, preferably research that contributes to the faculty member's own work.
- Karen Snyder Sullivan Travel Award. Summer travel support for students who have not traveled outside the U.S. after the age of five.
- Lotte Kaliski Foundation for Gifted Children, Inc. Scholarships for students with physical handicaps or learning disabilities.
