LGBTQQA
Job and Career Information Legal and Educational Resources Associations
The CDC understands the particular challenges facing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, questioning and allied populations. How do I get answers I want without revealing my sexual orientation in an interview? How out can I or should I be at work or at work-related functions, like office parties? How do I know if the company has a domestic partnership policy? Should I ask if the company has a gay and lesbian support group? What are my rights? How can I find a place that will accept me for who I am? We have collected a number of resources that may help answer critical questions in your career development process.
We have assembled a list of resources that may be helpful in providing support and opportunities for LGBTQQA students. This list is not meant to be comprehensive nor is it a substitute for using the CDC services; rather it is a resource to supplement your research efforts regarding career exploration and planning.
The CDC strongly encourages you to take advantage of our workshops and counseling services, as well as our library collection. The Multicultural and FP Resources section in the library includes books, notebooks, and magazines. Some books of note include Lavender Road to Success: The Career Guide for the Gay Community by Kirk Snyder, and Out in the Workplace: The Pleasures and Perils of Coming Out on the Job by Richard A. Rasi and Lourdes Rodríguez-Nogués.
Also, be aware that the Jeannette Marks House at 5 Faculty Lane has a library of valuable resources and programming that may be of interest to you. Student organizations like True Colors and Familia can also provide support and social opportunities as well as a way to network with peers and alumnae who are interested in internships and career possibilities in LGBT friendly work places.
Lyon's Pride, an affiliate group for lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, intersexed, and queer alumnae/alumni, students, faculty and staff of Mount Holyoke College and their partners, provides networking opportunities and can be contacted through Bev Harrison '65.
