The Career Development Center is aware of the variety of challenges that are added for International students in the search for internships as undergraduates and employment after graduation.  How do I conduct a job or internship search in my home country while attending school in Massachusetts?  At what point in the internship or job search process do I reveal that I am an international student?  Will I be considered for internships on an equal basis with students from the United States?

We have assembled a list of resources that may be helpful in providing support and opportunities for International students.
This list is not meant to be comprehensive nor is it a substitute for using the CDC services; rather it is a resource to supplement your research efforts regarding career exploration and planning.

The CDC strongly encourages you to take advantage of our workshops and counseling services, as well as our library collection.  The Multicultural and FP Resources section in the library includes books, notebooks, and magazines including Career Planning Guide for International Students by the International Careers Consortium.  Books in the International section, although geared to U.S. citizens, will also be useful to international students looking for jobs and internships outside the United States.

The CDC and the Alumnae Association have collaborated to produce a list of companies that have recently hired international graduates of Mount Holyoke College [adobe acrobat file CompanyList]. If you decide to conduct a job search in the United States, you may find the information in Employing the MHC International Student on an F-1 Visa helpful [adobe acrobat file Employing].

Also, be aware that the Center for Global Initiatives Visa and Immigration has a wealth of information on applying for OPT, on and off campus employment guidelines, and valuable resources both on their website and in their offices about obtaining employment in the U.S.
