How Do I Become a Community Service Student Worker?
- You must be a federally funded work-study student. Contact Student Financial Services or Student Employment to check on your status.
- Find a community service site online by going to JobX. Contact the site directly to arrange for an interview.
- Once you have secured the position, have your site supervisor complete the Work Study Agreement Form which was sent to them in their mailing, or you can pick one up at the CDC. Return this form to Janice Kane, Student Employment Coordinator.
- Complete a bi-weekly timesheet and return it to the CDC. Your site supervisor must sign your timesheet and you MUST bring your time sheet to the CDC, not Payroll. You can get a supply of timesheets in the Payroll Office in Skinner Hall or the CDC.
- Timesheets are due no later than 10:00 am on the Monday following the end of the pay period to the CDC.
- If you would like to develop your own community service work site, you can do so. A prospective package will be sent to the site. If they are a not-for-profit organization and meet all criteria set by the Student Employment Office, then you can begin working there once all the required paperwork is turned in.
- If you’ve never held an on or off campus job, make sure all required tax forms are complete. You can obtain these forms from the Payroll Office located in Human Resources in Skinner Hall or on the Human Resources web site.

- Attend required training during the semester: (1) Overview Training, (2) Extended Training Workshop and (3) Reflection Session. You only need to go to one of each training/session. A list of these trainings with dates and locations can be found on the America Reads website.
- Submit your bi-weekly timesheet directly to the CDC. Timesheets are due no later than 10:00 a.m. on the Monday following the end of the pay period and must be signed by your site supervisor, not the CDC.
