California Executive Program is a one-year public service and leadership development program to extend knowledge of California government, to prepare leaders for public careers, and to promote civic education. Deadline: Winter.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a year-long professional internship at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, D.C. Mount Holyoke College may nominate 2 graduating seniors for the Junior Fellows Program. Fellows work as research or editorial assistants, including reviewing and editing manuscripts for Foreign Policy. There are no restrictions as to citizenship or age. Applicants must have completed a significant amount of coursework in the area of international politics or economics of a high academic quality. MHC NOMINATION REQUIRED. Deadline: Fall.

Common Ground Fellowship in Creative Responses to Homelessness Community Fellows work as staff members and participate in seminars, conferences and events designed to complement and enhance the practical work of The Times Square, a not-for-profit housing organization focusing on providing housing and economic and job development opportunities for the homeless and low-income adults in New York City. Deadlines vary.

CORO Fellows Program is a nine-month experience-based, graduate-level training program in public policy. Sixty-four are selected from across the country to serve as Coro Fellows at one of the Coro Centers (Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and San Francisco). This program offers intensive leadership training in public affairs. Deadlines vary.

David L. Boren NSEP (National Security Education Program) - Provides support for undergraduate study abroad. Awarded for study OUTSIDE Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, in countries relating to national security interests. Awards for a minimum of one academic term (up to $10,000 per term) are available, but study abroad proposals based on two consecutive semesters of study are strongly encouraged, particularly for rising juniors and seniors. Support for summer study is also available, with some restrictions. All recipients of NSEP awards must seek employment with a federal agency or office involved in national security affairs for a period equivalent to the award period. MHC NOMINATION IS REQUIRED. Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a six-month professional internship in Washington, D.C. Fellows are supported by a monthly stipend and serve as full-time project assistants at one of the participating organizations of their choice. Deadlines: Fall and Winter.

Institute for International Public Policy Program sponsored by the United Negro College Fund provides underrepresented minority students (African American, Hispanic/Latino American, American Indian, Asian American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander) with specially designed education and training experiences critical to entry and advancement in international affairs careers. Minimum of 3.2 GPA and U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status is required.  MHC NOMINATION IS REQUIRED. MHC Deadline: Winter.

The New York City Government Scholar Program offers a unique opportunity to learn about New York City government. The ten-week summer program combines full-time employment in City government with a seminar series exploring the mechanics of local government as well as important issues facing the City. Through work experiences and weekly discussion, the Scholars come to understand the enormous variety and complexity of the challenges in New York City government. Deadline: Fall.

Truman Scholarship is an opportunity for current Juniors who are preparing for a career in government or public service in a wide spectrum of careers and majors, but who have a strong interest in public policy. Scholars receive up to $27,000 for graduate study. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals, in the top quarter of their junior class. Applicants must have outstanding leadership potential and a strong record of commitment and work in community, government, political or public service.  MHC NOMINATION IS REQUIRED. Mount Holyoke may nominate up to 4 candidates. MHC Deadline: Fall.

Udall Scholarship is an award for sophomore or junior students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and EITHER: preparing for a career in environmental public policy, OR: who are Native American or Alaska Natives who intend to pursue a career in health care or tribal policy. MHC NOMINATION IS REQUIRED. MHC may nominate 4 students. Deadline: Winter.

White House Fellowships are one-year assignments in Washington for young professionals. Fellows work full time as special assistants to a Cabinet member or senior presidential advisors and also participate in an education program desgined to nurture their leadership development. Deadline: Winter.

Young Communicators Fellowships are awards for aspiring writers and policy wonks. Juniors, seniors, and recent graduates may apply for a grant to take advantage of internships and other career-building opportunities. Awards up to $5,000. Deadlines: Spring/rolling.
