Dentistry

Dentistry is the health profession devoted to maintaining the health of the teeth, gums and other hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity. There are a variety of career options available to dentists. They may elect general dentistry or one of several specialty areas including orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery.  They may establish private practices or work for other dentists, clinics, hospitals, private or government agencies.

The 55 U.S. dental schools accept students who have successfully completed prerequisite undergraduate science courses and, most often, a baccalaureate degree. Applicants are also required to take the DAT exam prior to application.
