Pharmacy
As an expert in both the science and clinical use of medications, the pharmacist is an essential member of the health care team. In addition to the traditional role of dispensing medications, today's pharmacists actively participate in the direct care of the patient. Pharmacists work in community pharmacies, hospital and other institutional settings, the pharmaceutical industry, in government agencies and in academic pharmacy. A Pharm.D. program requires two years of preprofessional study at the college level, but often students complete a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry in preparation for entering post-graduate training. Many pharmacy programs require that applicants take the Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) prior to applying.
