Veterinary Medicine

The roles veterinarians play in the community have expanded and continue to diversify. Vets may treat animals (domestic, livestock, wildlife, zoological), research diseases and disorders affecting both humans and animals, protect ecosystem health, guard the safety of the nation’s food supply, ensure the fair treatment of animals used in research, and much more. Most veterinarians are employed in private practices, but many work in veterinary hospitals, or teach or do research in colleges and universities. Some work in the meat products industry. Others work in government, such as for police, and wildlife departments, in animal control, and in the military.
