Public Service Projects

Davis Projects for Peace invites undergraduates at the American colleges and universities in the Davis United world College Scholars Program (includes Mount Holyoke College) to design grassroots projects that they will implement during the summer months.  Through a competition on over 85 campuses, these 100 projects judged to be the most promising and do-able will be funded at $10,000 each.  The objective is to encourage and support today's motivated youth to create and tryout their own ideas for building peace. MHC NOMINATION IS REQUIRED.  All undergraduates are eligible to apply.  There are no citizenship or age requirements.  MHC Deadline: Winter.

Echoing Green Public Service Fellowships are two-year $60,000 ($30,000 per year) awards for an innovative public service project anywhere in the world. There are no restrictions of age, citizenship, or grade point average. Fellowships offer funding of $60,000 to $90,000 over two years for individuals or partnerships to start-up and build innovative, sustainable projects and organizations that will effect social change. Deadline: Fall.

Lindbergh Grants Program was founded to further Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh's shared vision of a balance between technological advancement and environmental preservation. Each year grants of up to $10,580 (a symbolic amount representing the cost of the "Spirit of St. Louis") are given for projects in the following categories: agriculture; aviation/aerospace; conservation of natural resources; education (including humanities/education, the arts and intercultural communication); exploration; health; and waste minimization and management. Deadline: Spring.

Peter F. Drucker Award for Non-Profit Innovation is an award for not-for-profit organizations that are already established. It is named after internationally known economist and oriental art expert Peter F. Drucker, formerly a professor at Claremont College. The award is $25,000 and a video documentary of the winning project or program. Deadline: Summer.

Samuel Huntington Public Service Award provides $10,000 in funding to graduating seniors for a project that encompasses any activity that furthers the public good. The activity can be undertaken by the student alone or working through established charitable, religious, education, governmental, or other public service organizations.
