Chemistry

All students with majors or minors in sciences or mathemetics should consider participating in a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at one of the many institutions offering them in the U.S.  REU projects involve active participation by students in ongoing research programs or in research projects designed especially for the purpose.Beginning in November, the NSF web site lists opportunities by discipline; they include Astronomical Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer and Information Science and Engineering, Cyberinfrastructure, Department of Defense (DoD), Earth Sciences, Education and Human Resources, Engineering, Ethics and Values Studies, International Science and Engineering, Materials Research, Mathematical Sciences, Ocean Sciences, Physics, Polar Programs, and Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences. 

Students with science or mathematics majors or minors are especially encouraged to apply for summer funding from the HHMI Undergraduate Science Education Program. Both first-year students and upperclassmen are eligible to apply. To apply to this program, check the box labeled "HHMI Summer Education Program" on the Universal Application form.

• University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, CT. Lab research with clinical/dental experience.
• National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Research Triangle Park, NC.   Health effects of environmental agents. Seniors may be eligible.
• MetroHealth Foundation, Cleveland OH. For Ohio residents only. Clinical lab research.
• University of California, Santa Cruz, CA.  Biochemistry. 
• U.S. Department of Energy. Energy research undergraduate laboratory fellowship. Lots of engineering and physics, but also includes health and environmental sciences and biology. At DOE labs around the country, including Brookhaven National Laboratory on Long Island.  Graduating seniors are eligible.
• Weizmann Institute of Science. Israel.
• Institut Pasteur. Paris, France. Zuccaire Undergraduate Summer Internship.
• Cornell Medical School Gateways to the laboratory summer program trains freshman and sophomores to become successful MD-PhD applicants
• NHMFL summer undergraduate research fellowship at Florida State University, University of Florida or Los Alamos National Laboratory
• Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation 10-12 week interships
• The Student Conservation Association
• National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Tallahassee, FL.
• Summerbridge. Sites around the country, including Manhattan and Bronx. Get teaching experience, may include science and math.
