What Sponsors Say
"Her professionalism, her maturity, and her intelligence helped make what was a fairly short internship extremely productive and rewarding for her and for our organization."

"I feel such a program brings with it a possibility for great satisfaction and rich rewards for all concerned. A student intern can be a breath of much needed fresh air, an inquisitive and impartial observer of the existing milieu which can prove beneficial to all of us."

Internship Programs

Contact: Joanna Adler, Director of Experiential Learning

Since 1949, the staff of the Career Development Center (CDC) has welcomed all types of agencies and organizations, companies and patrons to consider sponsoring our students in a practical internship experience. The staff helps students through the application process, assists them in articulating the relationship between the internship and their academic program, and stays close to sponsors to facilitate students progress.

The internship programs have been developed to provide students with realistic exposure to occupational fields in which they are interested. For students, the placements bridge academic learning with the realities of the working world. We encourage conducting internships in the summer or during the January term, but they may be done at anytime during the year if accomodations can be met.

We encourage potential sponsors to send additional information about their organizations and projects. Students interested in the position often have many questions about the listing; if the information is complete and interest strong, they will apply.

Internship Requirements
Students seek internships that fulfill our faculty guidelines for academically related practical experience. This means that an internship should last at least 240 hours (or for a January internship, be a minimum of 13 days with 5-8hrs of work per day), be supervised, consist of "substantive work," that the student report on her progress to both her sponsor and faculty representative, and that her sponsor evaluate her work at the end of the internship.

These guidelines further require a student and her sponsor to complete a few simple forms, which we believe will greatly enhance the quality of the student's work and her overall experience. They also allow the sponsor to establish expectations and to ensure a high degree of quality and productivity on the part of the student; they also ensure that the student be included as an active participant in the sponsor's project and team.

Your MHC intern will ask you two complete two forms, the former prior to the internship and the latter following.
