Celebrating the Life and Work of Martin Luther King

Dancers, drummers, and singers will join in a celebration of the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday, January 19, at 1:30 pm in Abbey Memorial Chapel. The annual commemoration, now in its seventh year, will feature African drumming by the Bamidele Drummers of Amherst; soloist Ivy Tillman of the College’s Library, Information, and Technology Services; a performance by the multicultural duo Moonlight and Morning Star; and modern dance by Dance Connecticut’s Youth Performance Project, a troupe of children from inner-city Hartford. Lois Brown, MHC assistant professor of English, will be the emcee for the event. The celebration last year attracted an audience of more than 200 people, many from the surrounding community. “Everyone is welcome for an upbeat, energetic commemoration of Dr. King’s life and work through music and dance,” says Andrea Ayvazian, the College’s dean of religious and spiritual life. The event is sponsored by MHC’s Office of Religious and Spiritual Life and Office of Student Programs. For more information, call x2054.

The counter is 1,167
