Competition for Exchange with the University of Bonn Reopened for 2001Ð2002 The competition for MHC's exchange with the University of Bonn for next year has been reopened because the university has broadened the eligibility requirements. The exchange is now open to all qualified students regardless of citizenship (instead of just to U.S. citizens) and to seniors who wish to spend a year at Bonn following their graduation from Mount Holyoke (as well as to students applying for a traditional junior year abroad). Applicants must ordinarily have completed at least two years of German. Priority is given to students who receive financial aid from Mount Holyoke. Students selected for the exchange will pay no tuition and will receive a stipend from the University of Bonn to cover basic living expenses. To apply, submit the following documents to the Office of International Affairs by Friday, February 16: Request to Study Abroad form (seniors applying for next year should adapt the form as needed to reflect the fact that they will have graduated prior to going abroad); a study proposal outlining the reasons that you wish to study in Germany, and at Bonn in particular (copies in English and German); and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member in your major. The German department will interview all candidates, and students will be notified in late February as to whether they have been selected to participate. Alternative for Winter Workouts Learn how to use the crew team's rowing machines. Workshops will be offered January 29 at noon and February 1 at 5:30 on how to use the rowing machine and organize a workout. After attending one workshop, participants may use the machines for the rest of the winter. The cost is $25, and the fee will help the crew team cover spring break costs.
