Martin Luther King
Jr. Breakfast
Lucas Wilson, associate professor of African American studies
and economics and director of academic development, was the keynote
speaker at the twenty-first annual breakfast hosted by the Martin
Luther King Jr. Committee in Amherst. The committee's theme this
year was "Human Justice: To Save the Soul of America." The breakfast
took place Saturday, January 15, at Amherst Middle School. Irasema
Lewis, senior administrative assistant to the president, is the
acting chair of Amherst's MLK committee.
LITS Extends Tech
Support
This fall, LITS implemented Track-It!, a new call-tracking system
with a self-service online knowledge base (FAQs) and a user-friendly
Web interface that will allow MHC community members to report
technical issues, view their individual work order status, and
communicate with the technician handling their order. Track-It!'s
self-service knowledge base will extend LITS support by providing
a search engine and solution database for common technical problems.
The Web interface also has an announcement field that will provide
a more direct means of communicating network-related problems
to the College community. Don't worry, users can still call the
support line at x2600 or use the help2600 mail list. To check
out Track-It!, go to http://trak/trackit.
And the Award Goes
to...
LITS recently garnered the prestigious Association of College
and Research Libraries Excellence in Academic Libraries Award,
which recognizes "academic librarians and staff who work together
as a team to develop academic libraries that are outstanding in
furthering the educational missions of the institutions. The ACRL
award description notes, "The criteria for recognizing excellence
will emphasize 'outcomes' rather than 'inputs' as the best measure
of quality. They include creativity and innovation in meeting
the needs of their academic community, leadership in developing
and implementing exemplary programs that other libraries can emulate,
and substantial and productive relationships with classroom faculty
and students."
