CDC Web Site to Address Needs of the Underrepresented
The Career Development
Center (CDC) has expanded its Web site to include new sections
dedicated to Mount Holyoke's ALANA (African American, Latina, Asian
American, and Native American), Frances Perkins, and LBT (lesbian,
bisexual, and transgendered) populations. Says Bernetta Parson, the
CDC's multicultural career counselor, Creating this addition
to the site is part of the CDC's outreach process, demonstrating awareness
of the specific career challenges facing these populations. The ALANA page contains articles on networking and facing bias; internship
and career advice; association information; and links to specific
job listings. The Frances Perkins page has helpful articles on balancing
work and family; family-friendly companies; financial advice; age
discrimination; relocation information; and child-care resources.
The LBT page provides association links; a listing of gay-friendly
workplaces; and job listings and addresses specific to LBT workplace
issues. Parson created these pages to provide students with
another option in the career development process and to encourage
students to come to the CDC and engage in a dialogue with us,
she said. I want students to know that their issues are our
issues. |
