More than 150 Mount Holyoke women spent the month of January hard at work--in hospitals and clinics, television studios and literary agencies, law firms and language institutes, schools and veterinary offices--across the nation and overseas. While one pitched in at a police department in Honolulu, Hawaii, another opted for political work, interning for the mayor of Portland, Oregon. From the World Trade Center to the Institute of War and Peace Reporting in London, assistance came in the form of ambitious students eager to experience the workaday world, to indulge curiosities and passions, and to jump-start careers. The January Internships placed students as far away as New Delhi and Costa Rica and as nearby as the administrative offices right here on our South Hadley campus. What follows are reflections from the field written by some impassioned J-Term interns.
