Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarships
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute will award scholarships to Latino students who have a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and plan to continue doing so. Students with excellent leadership potential are encouraged to apply. Recipients will receive a scholarship of $5,000 to attend a four-year or graduate-level academic institution or $1,500 to attend a two-year community college. Proof of acceptance into an accredited community college, four-year university, or graduate/professional program is required. Applicants must be enrolled as full-time students, demonstrate financial need, be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents, and demonstrate active participation in public service-oriented activities and good writing skills. Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowships (Sophomores May Apply)

This fellowship includes tuition, room, board, and mandatory fees during the junior and senior years of college and during the first year of graduate study, with reimbursement for books and one round-trip travel opportunity. Fellows must agree to pursue a graduate degree in international studies at one of the graduate schools identified by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. Participating graduate schools provide financial support in the second year of graduate study based on need. Fellows meet annually in Washington, D.C., for a
program orientation. Only United States citizens will be
considered. Applicants must be in their sophomore year of undergraduate study and have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the time of application. Deadline: February 21.

Summer Research Training Opportunities at Mount Holyoke Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Research and Training Program

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Research and Training Program is now accepting applications for the 2003 summer program. Support is available for up to ten MHC first-year students who have just completed their first year of study (rising sophomores) to spend two months (May 29–July 25) at MHC as participants in an intensive training program in biological research techniques. First-year students can apply for these fellowships, or faculty can nominate students for them. Both student applicants and student nominees must complete an application form to be considered for a fellowship award. Successful applicants will receive a stipend of $3,400 and free on-campus housing. Students from groups that are underrepresented in science are especially encouraged to apply. Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Program
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute Summer Program is now accepting applications for the 2003 summer program. Support is available for up to five MHC sophomore, junior, or Francis Perkins students who would like to undertake summer research in the biological sciences on or off campus during the summer of 2003. Each successful applicant will receive a stipend of $3,400. Students working at MHC will receive free on-campus housing. Student applicants must complete an application form to be considered. Participating students can also receive additional support for supplies and for travel to attend conferences. Students from groups that are underrepresented in science are especially encouraged to apply. Application deadline: Friday, February 21. The CDC will offer a number of workshops on summer internships during February. The dates and topics are: February 10, Developing Your Summer Internship, 7 pm; February 11, Developing Your Summer Internship Abroad,
4 pm; February 12, Developing Your Summer Internship in
Arts and Communications, 4 pm; and February 13, Developing Your Summer Internship in Business, 4 pm. All workshops will be held at the CDC. For more information, call x2080.
