Brad
On January 31, Brad Leithauser was awarded the medal of the Order
of the Falcon by the President of Iceland, making him a Knight
of the Republic. The award is given for "services to Iceland
or mankind." Leithauser is being honored for the work he's
done over many years to bring Icelandic literature to an English
readership.
Volunteer
Spirit
The Peace Corps recently announced that Mount Holyoke came in
at number 13 on its list of small colleges and universities that
produced the most Peace Corps volunteers in 2004. While MHC has
20 alumnae volunteers, the University of Chicago, which is number
one, has 30 alumni volunteers. Barnard College ranked 22, while

The following students' names were inadvertently omitted from
the list of Sarah Williston Scholars at the Celebration of Student
Achievement: Saabira Chaudhuri, Sixuan Chen, Najiyah Edun, Khadija
Hasan, Melanie Hnot, Sarah Njoroge, A Oo, and Marzanna Szeraszewicz.
The award ceremony, which took place Monday, February 7, in Blanchard's
Great Room, is designed to recognize leadership by students
and
recent graduates, as demonstrated through academic excellence,
community service, and outstanding accomplishment. For a complete
